The Experience of Competence Among Older Adults in Digital Games

Contact: Friedrich Schadow – friedrich.schadow∂kit.edu

In our study on games with adults aged 60 and over, we want to understand how games on computers, consoles, cell phones, or tablets affect your individual sense of competence.

  • The aim of the study is to identify aspects of games, such as certain game mechanics or feedback systems, that affect your experience of competence. By competence, we refer to the feeling that you can achieve your goals in the game, make progress, and that the game gives you helpful feedback.
  • The target group for the study is adults aged 60 and over who actively play video and computer games, whether on a PC, mobile phone, tablet, or console.
  • Participation in this study involves an interview about your individual experiences with games, which games you like to play, which games you feel particularly competent or less competent at, and whether/how your gaming habits have changed over time.
  • The interview will take approximately 45 minutes.
  • The compensation for your time is €20.
