Understanding Children's and Parents' Perspectives on Disengagement From Games
Contact: Meshaiel Alsheail (English, Arabic)
Are you a parent of a child aged 4 to 10 who plays digital games?
Your and your child(ren)'s experiences and perspectives can support our research that seeks to understand how to make it easier for children to disengage from games. Through our research, we want to contribute to the design of games that are fun and engaging to play, but that also empower players to exit a play session when the time has come.
Our study is centred on understanding the disengagement experience of children aged 4 to 10, and how their parents mediate and experience the process of disengaging from games.
In the interview, we want to learn about the following:
- Your child's gaming preferences: What games do they choose, and what makes these games special to them? How do the games engage children, and what options to disengage do they offer?
- Parental mediation of gaming habits: How do parents shape the gaming environment for their children? How do they support the exit from play, what tools do they use, and what is their experience of disengagement?
- Your child's disengagement experiences: What happens when it is time to stop playing? How do children navigate this process, and what emotions come into play?
As a token of our appreciation for your insights, we are offering a reimbursement of 30€ for participating in the interview. The interview is expected to last approximately 30-45 minutes and it can take place on campus (KIT Campus Süd, CS 50.28 - InformatiKOM II) or online - whatever suits you and your child best! We offer flexible timing to adapt to your schedule.
