Cycling, Disability and Technology

Contact: Lukas Strobel

We’re looking for physically disabled participants for an interview study on experiences with accessible cycling and technology.

Physically disabled in this context means: You identify with a physical disability and/or are diagnosed with it, e.g., disabiulity of the upper or lower limbs, spinal cord injury, etc.

Cycling experience means, for us: You regularly go outdoor or indoor cycling with your (accessible) cycle or you wish to do so. You do not need to own an accessible cycle. Generally, you must have an interest in the activity, be it for sport, transportation or other purposes.

Technology covers a broad spectrum in this study. Whether you track your activities, use an e-bike, or cycle virtually indoors – we are interested in the manifold ways and options of using technology for the many purposes of cycling!

We will conduct an interview with you. This will take about an hour. It can take place online or in the Karlsruhe or Saarland area. For instance, interviews can take place at our offices (KIT Campus Süd, Building 50.28, InformatiKOM II) but we try to find an accessible location that suits your needs.

Our research aims to better include the perspectives, needs and experiences of disabled people in the development and use of technologies in the context of cycling.

Some topics we want to cover in the interviews are:

  • Which positive, negative, neutral experiences did you have with cycling?
  • How do you employ and envision technology for accessible cycling?

As token of appreciation for your time and willingness to share your insights with us, we offer a remuneration of € 30.

You can find further information in the following documents. If you have any questions regarding this study, do not hesitate to contact us.
